Temporary Migration More Popular than Full Immigration

Once upon a time full immigration was the most popular form of moving to Australia. Today however temporary immigration (also known as long term arrivals) has surpassed it. Often temporary immigration is a first step on the way to full immigration.

In 1982–83, for example, there were 79,730 long-term temporary arrivals in Australia and 83,010 permanent arrivals. By 2002–03 long-term arrivals were up to 279,879 while permanent arrivals remained relatively steady at 93 914. That’s three times as much!

If you or anyone you know is planning on living in Australia you need not apply immediately for citizenship. Consider your options. You may prefer to get a long term visa first and use it to get local work experience. In any event, this may be the easiest way to get full citizenship.
